  When it comes to which major you should choose, I propose that you apply for the major of English. To begin with, English is the most popular language in the world, which is widely used in all fields such as teaching, translation, foreign trade and so on. What’s more, it goes without saying that English majors are more likely to find a good job in the tighter and tighter job market.

  In order to study at English Department, you have to meet the following requirements. In the first place, you have to spend a lot of time on it, just as the old saying goes, “Practice makes perfect”. In the second place, the basic skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking are necessary, because they are the foundations for your future study. Last but not the least important, you need an intense interest in learning English since “interest is the best teacher.”

  As far as the preparation work is concerned, you should first of all review all the required vocabulary. In addition, you’d better spend some time on reading and writing. Only through these measures can you hope to enroll in our university.

To begin with, our members will gain more opportunities to improve the English proficiency, since we have to contact English teachers and foreign teachers frequently. What’s more, your organizational skills will be better with every member of our club having to participate in organizing the activities.

  A Letter Declining a Job Offer

  I am much grateful to be offered a job position of computer programmer in your company. I appreciate your prompt reply to my application; however, I cannot accept your offer.

  There are three reasons why this position doesn’t suit me. In the first place, my major at university is human resources management; therefore I cannot put theory into practice as a programmer. Meanwhile, what I have learned at university will be of no use in my job. In the second place, I am more interested in communicating with people. If I have to deal with machines and software every day, I won’t be able to give my potential a full play. Last but not least, I have already got an offer of human resources manager from another company, which I believe is more suitable for me.

  Please accept my sincere apology for any inconvenience my decision will bring. I do hope your company will find suitable people for the job and will have a bright future. I look forward to the day when we can cooperate again.
