Our goal is clear—to disrupt, dismantle and defeat Al-Qaeda and their extremist allies. I’m not hiding far. But the enemy is getting smarter and more Americans are dying. At least 47 troops killed in August alone, the deadliest month since the war began 8 years ago.
The fact we’re going in the areas where Taliban has basically been our challenge for a number of years, means that our casualties are going to be higher. Despite the success of democratic elections last month, the military says the Taliban forces are building bigger bombs. IED attacks are up 140% in the last year. In a report still making its way through the Pentagon, the top US commander at Afghanistan reportedly is asking for new strategy and more troops.
Clearly I wanna address those issues and we will have to look at the availability of forces we'll have to look at the cost of lives. President Obama has boosted US forces in Afghanistan by 21,000, but the White House says winning this war will take time. We’ll not gonna see the entire thing to turn around in a few months, after years and years of neglect.
